Where do I start? Okay, well, I’m a native Virginian—yes, that means born and raised in the South. But, most people tell me I lack that quintessential Southern accent; maybe that’s because my parents are Dutch and Puerto Rican. Who knows? Living in the South has this special allure. If you’re a fellow Southerner, you already know exactly what I’m talking about, but if you’re new to Virginia then you’re in for a treat. Growing up, my family moved around a lot which was great because I was able to meet a lot of people and see a lot of the state. That’s definitely when I developed my passion for traveling and people watching.

When I’m not in the office or traveling for the University, I love reading (I’m currently into historical fiction and memoirs), taking pottery classes, hanging out with friends, and playing with my dog. And, of course, surfing Facebook and blogging.

Game Day Perspective

As an alumna, 18 year staff member, and the holder of football season tickets for 16 years, I have a long history with the University of Richmond. I was fortunate enough to make the 9 hour ride to Chattanooga last Friday to attend the game. I don’t think I have ever been so impressed with the class act that is University of Richmond.

Spider Football on ESPN2 tonight!!

I know Tom has posted quite a bit regarding tonight’s Spider Football game already; but I just couldn’t keep quite any longer!

First-years are moving in!

This is probably one of the most exciting days on campus. Today first-years arrived!

Over the next several days, new students and their families will participate in Orientation. Included in the five day program are many exciting events such as a Presidential Reception, meetings with Orientation Advisors, “Playfair”, and information sessions. It’s a very exciting time for our new students and we’re all eager to get to know every one of them.

From Half a World Away to the Same Dorm Room

Seniors Radaslava (Rada) Dogandjieva and Dani Pierre finish each others’ sentences. Rada glances at Dani from the corner of her eye and half smirks when she says something she knows will make Dani laugh. Then, like clockwork, Dani dissolves into giggles and Rada joins her.

Fun times in the River City!

If you spend any time on our student diarist page, Spider Diaries, you have probably picked up on the incredible number of activities available to students in the Richmond metro area. Well, the summer is no exception to that rule. In fact, the summer is probably my favorite time of year—living in Richmond during the summer offers a virtual smorgasbord of exciting free events. It’s nothing short of fantastic.
