That time of year has come once again! Thousands of high school sophomores and juniors are hitting the pavement and traveling up and down interstates across the country looking for “the perfect school.” I hope that, in this very busy time, you find some of the following tips helpful.

President Ayers’ Inauguration Weekend

Dr. Edward L. Ayers, the ninth president of the University of Richmond, began what has proven to be a very exciting presidency last July. The University community officially welcomed and installed Dr. Ayers this past Friday.

Leland Melvin to visit campus

For those of you who have been emailing and posting about Leland Melvin, Richmond’s first spider in space, I have news! We are very excited to announce that Astronaut Leland Melvin will be on campus on Sunday, April 13. Leland plans to discuss his experience in space with a host of Richmond students, alumni, and community members. The event is open to the public. If you’re in town, stop by the Robins Center at 2:00 p.m. to hear Mr. Melvin speak about his recent journey into space.

The month of waiting…

April brings many mixed emotions to the lives of admission officers at Richmond. First, we’re delighted to have had such a wonderful applicant pool—one filled with talented and deserving young people who continue to awe us. This year proved to be a remarkable one for our office. We achieved many firsts, including the largest applicant pool in history and a very competitive acceptance rate.

2008 – Richmond Scholars, Bonner Scholars and Need-Based Aid, oh my!

This year, the Office of Admission received well over 5,000 applications for our prestigious Richmond Scholars program which awards 50 full-tuition, merit-based scholarships to each incoming first-year class. The sheer volume of applications we received by December 15 was daunting, but each application left us feeling invigorated and excited about the applicant pool. Personally, I was left in awe and often humbled by the accomplishments of these young people.
