Don’t just take my word for it…

I hope that my last post on financial aid was helpful – but don’t just take my word for it!

Financial Aid: Merit-based vs. Need-based

Before I get into the meat of this post, I want to say a brief word about financial aid at the University of Richmond. Richmond has been consistently recognized for its strong financial aid programs, and we remain committed to making a Richmond education affordable to every student we admit. Our president, Ed Ayers, has emphasized this commitment, particularly in light of the current financial climate – we are lucky not to have taken nearly as large a hit as some have, and our generous financial aid policies will continue uninterrupted. This year, in fact, students are receiving more than $49 million in financial aid.

Richmond Scholars Deadline and Early Decision

As many of you know, the Richmond Scholars application deadline is fast approaching: December 15 is just over a week away. Any application we receive by December 15 will automatically be considered for the Richmond Scholars program. There’s no additional application required (unless you intend to apply for the Artist Scholarship), and the deadline is in no way early or binding – we set an earlier date so we have time to review those applications and forward them to the faculty scholarship committees.

Online Chats

Throughout the fall semester, the Office of Admission hosts a number of online chat events for high school students and parents. Chats are a great way to get some of your questions answered quickly, to get more perspective from our wonderful tour guides (who serve as current student chatters), and to chat with admission officers as well.

2008 – Richmond Scholars, Bonner Scholars and Need-Based Aid, oh my!

Richmond Scholars

This year, the Office of Admission received well over 5,000 applications for our prestigious Richmond Scholars program which awards 50 full-tuition, merit-based scholarships to each incoming first-year class. The sheer volume of applications we received by December 15 was daunting, but each application left us feeling invigorated and excited about the applicant pool. Personally, I was left in awe and often humbled by the accomplishments of these young people.
